As an integral part of the University of Michigan Health system, the Frankel Cardiovascular Center offers a wide range of services dedicated to the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of heart and vascular diseases. This state-of-the-art facility brings together a multidisciplinary team of experts, including cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, vascular specialists, electrophysiologists, and imaging specialists, all committed to providing advanced and patient-centered care.
The environment at the Samuel and Jean Frankel Cardiovascular Center is designed to support complex cardiovascular care, research, and education. As a dedicated center within a major academic medical institution, it features advanced infrastructure, including state-of-the-art diagnostic and interventional laboratories, cardiac catheterization suites, electrophysiology labs, operating rooms equipped for open-heart and vascular surgeries, and specialized intensive care units for post-procedure and critical care. Patients can expect a setting that prioritizes safety, utilizes cutting-edge medical technologies, and fosters a collaborative environment among healthcare professionals. The center's integration within the University of Michigan Health system ensures access to a broad spectrum of medical expertise and resources, facilitating comprehensive care for even the most complex cardiovascular conditions.
The services offered at the Frankel Cardiovascular Center are extensive, covering the full spectrum of cardiac and vascular care. In cardiology, patients can receive consultations, undergo non-invasive diagnostic testing such as electrocardiograms (ECG), echocardiograms (including transthoracic, transesophageal, and stress echo), Holter and event monitoring, and nuclear cardiology studies. Interventional cardiologists perform procedures like coronary angiography, angioplasty, and stenting. Electrophysiologists specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of heart rhythm disorders, offering services such as EP studies, catheter ablation, and the implantation of pacemakers and implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs). The center's cardiac surgeons perform a wide range of surgical procedures, including coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), heart valve repair and replacement, heart transplantation, and surgery for congenital heart defects and aortic diseases.
In the realm of vascular care, the center provides diagnostic services like vascular ultrasound, CT angiography, and MR angiography. Vascular specialists offer medical management and interventional procedures for conditions such as peripheral artery disease, carotid artery disease, aortic aneurysms, and venous thromboembolism. The multidisciplinary approach ensures that patients with both cardiac and vascular issues receive coordinated and comprehensive care plans tailored to their individual needs.
As a leading academic medical center, the Frankel Cardiovascular Center is also deeply involved in research and innovation. This commitment to advancing medical knowledge translates to patients having access to the latest treatment options and potentially the opportunity to participate in clinical trials. The center's physicians and researchers are actively engaged in studying new therapies, improving surgical techniques, and enhancing diagnostic methods in cardiovascular medicine. This culture of continuous improvement and scientific inquiry benefits patients by ensuring they receive care that is informed by the most current evidence.
The provided patient reviews offer a mixed perspective on the Frankel Cardiovascular Center. One reviewer from February 2020 expressed a highly positive experience, stating it was a "great place" where they had successful open-heart surgery to repair two valves and reported feeling "great" five years later. This testimonial speaks to the center's capability in handling complex cardiac surgeries and achieving long-term positive outcomes for patients.
However, the second review presents a deeply tragic experience. This reviewer's two-week-old infant underwent surgery at the center and, despite being "well taken care of," developed an infection that ultimately led to the infant's death at eight weeks old. While the reviewer expressed gratitude for the additional six weeks they had with their child, this review highlights the inherent risks associated with complex medical procedures, particularly in vulnerable populations like newborns, and underscores the critical importance of infection control in healthcare settings. It is important to acknowledge that while medical professionals strive for the best outcomes, complications can occur.
For individuals seeking a "Heart Doctor Near Me," the Samuel and Jean Frankel Cardiovascular Center at the University of Michigan Health offers a comprehensive and advanced environment for the diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of heart and vascular conditions. The positive review regarding successful open-heart surgery suggests a high level of surgical expertise. However, the tragic experience shared in the second review serves as a reminder of the potential risks involved in medical care, even in highly regarded institutions. Prospective patients may want to consider both the center's reputation for advanced care and the importance of discussing potential risks and outcomes with their healthcare providers.
In conclusion, the Samuel and Jean Frankel Cardiovascular Center at the University of Michigan Health in Ann Arbor provides a comprehensive and advanced array of services for individuals seeking specialized heart and vascular care. Its state-of-the-art facilities, multidisciplinary team of experts, and commitment to research and innovation make it a leading center in the region. While patient experiences can vary, as highlighted by the provided reviews, the center's overall capabilities suggest a high standard of care for those in need of a "Heart Doctor Near Me" or specialized cardiovascular treatment.

Was there back in February 2020,great place had opened heart repaired 2 valves. It's been 5 years feel great
My 2 week old infant had surgery there. He was well taken care of except for the infection is what killed him. When he was 8 weeks old. But happy to have had 6 more weeks
My last and final visit was a few weeks ago. My interaction with two nurses on that visit made it clear I needed a new provider. Understand as a clinic patient you will come into contact with your Doctor's nurses about 90% of the time (in my experience). If they are good, you'll have a pleasant experience. If you find that they are unprofessional (or acting as such), you'll be leaving like me. For my doctor, I would have left 5 stars.
Dr Coleman, Eliason & Stanley have been amazing over the past 8 years with my son. We truly feel they have saved his life. Would recommend them to anyone especially those that have unique situations.
