Pulse Heart Institute Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery - Tacoma Introduce
For individuals in US seeking information about comprehensive cardiac and thoracic surgical care, we present Pulse Heart Institute Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery located at 419 S L St, Tacoma, WA 98405, USA. While direct access to this facility is not feasible for those in US, understanding the scope of services and patient experiences can provide valuable insights into the standards of care for complex heart and lung conditions.
Pulse Heart Institute is a part of the MultiCare Health System, a well-established healthcare provider in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States. This affiliation suggests access to a network of medical professionals, advanced technology, and a commitment to comprehensive patient care. The Tacoma location specifically focuses on cardiovascular and thoracic surgery, indicating a specialization in surgical interventions for diseases of the heart, lungs, and chest.
Environment and Atmosphere:
Specific details about the physical environment of the Pulse Heart Institute's Tacoma location are not extensively available online. However, the positive patient review mentions "excellent care" received from Dr. Carlson and the ICU nurses, suggesting a professional and supportive environment for post-surgical recovery. The smooth handling of follow-up appointments also points to an organized and patient-focused administrative process in some aspects. Conversely, the negative review details a frustrating experience with appointment scheduling and communication, indicating potential issues with front-office efficiency and information management. This conflicting feedback suggests that while the quality of medical care may be high in certain areas, the administrative aspects might have inconsistencies.
Services Offered:
As a cardiovascular and thoracic surgery institute, Pulse Heart Institute in Tacoma likely offers a wide range of surgical services, including:
- Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG): A surgical procedure to improve blood flow to the heart by bypassing blocked arteries, as explicitly mentioned in a positive patient review.
- Heart Valve Surgery: Repair or replacement of damaged or diseased heart valves.
- Aortic Surgery: Surgical treatment for conditions affecting the aorta, the body's main artery.
- Thoracic Surgery: Surgical procedures on the lungs, esophagus, and other organs within the chest cavity, potentially including lung cancer surgery, lobectomy, pneumonectomy, and treatment for other lung diseases.
- Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery: Utilizing smaller incisions and advanced techniques to perform heart surgery, potentially leading to faster recovery times.
- Endovascular Procedures: Minimally invasive procedures performed through blood vessels to treat certain cardiac and vascular conditions.
- Surgical Treatment for Heart Failure: Including procedures like ventricular assist device (VAD) implantation and heart transplantation (potentially in collaboration with other centers within the MultiCare system).
- Arrhythmia Surgery: Surgical interventions to treat irregular heart rhythms, such as Maze procedures for atrial fibrillation.
- Post-Surgical Care and Rehabilitation: Providing comprehensive care after surgery, including intensive care and follow-up appointments, as highlighted in one of the reviews.
Given the institute's name, it is probable that they also offer a range of diagnostic services related to cardiovascular and thoracic conditions to determine the need for surgical intervention.
Key Features and Strengths (Based on Reviews):
The available patient reviews offer a mixed perspective on the institute's strengths:
- Excellent Surgical and Post-Operative Care: The positive review explicitly praises the "excellent care" received during and after a CABG procedure, specifically mentioning Dr. Carlson and the ICU nurses. The handling of follow-up appointments was also noted as excellent. This suggests a high standard of medical and nursing care for surgical patients.
- Highly Recommended for Specific Procedures: The patient who underwent CABG strongly recommends Dr. Carlson and the nursing team for this type of surgery.
Concerns Raised (Based on Reviews):
- Poor Appointment Management and Communication: The negative review details a significant breakdown in the scheduling process, with the patient waiting for an extended period only to find out their appointment was with someone not in the office and that their appointment was not showing on the system despite prior confirmation calls. This indicates potential issues with administrative processes, communication between staff, and the accuracy of scheduling information.
- Lack of Timely Information and Resolution: The patient in the negative review reported a lack of answers and resolution after multiple inquiries about the delay, leading to frustration and dissatisfaction.
Promotional Information:
There is no explicit promotional information available for Pulse Heart Institute Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery - Tacoma based on the provided data. In the absence of such information, the patient reviews offer the primary insights. The positive review serves as a strong endorsement for the quality of surgical and immediate post-operative care, particularly for cardiac bypass surgery. However, the negative review highlights significant concerns regarding appointment management and communication, which could deter potential patients.
For local users in US seeking a "Heart Doctor Near Me" or information about cardiac and thoracic surgery, the contrasting experiences at Pulse Heart Institute in Tacoma underscore the importance of considering multiple factors when choosing a healthcare provider. While the quality of surgical care is paramount, efficient and reliable administrative processes and clear communication are also crucial for a positive patient experience. When researching cardiac and thoracic surgery options in US, it would be beneficial to inquire about the institute's reputation for both medical expertise and patient service.
To find reputable cardiovascular and thoracic surgery centers in US, individuals should seek recommendations from their primary care physicians, explore the websites and patient feedback (if available) for major hospitals and medical centers known for their cardiac and thoracic programs, and consider seeking second opinions for complex surgical procedures. The mixed feedback regarding Pulse Heart Institute in Tacoma highlights the need for a comprehensive evaluation of a healthcare provider, considering both the quality of medical treatment and the efficiency and patient-friendliness of their administrative operations.
Ultimately, for individuals in US exploring options for complex heart or lung surgery, the information about Pulse Heart Institute in Tacoma serves as a reminder to prioritize institutions known for both their surgical expertise and their commitment to a positive and well-managed patient experience. It is essential to seek comprehensive care where medical excellence is complemented by efficient and respectful administrative practices.

I had my CABG procedure on Nov 7,2024. I received excellent care from Dr Carlson, all th ICU nurses were fantastic and all my follow up appointments were handled with excellent care. If you need cardiac by pass, this is the Doctor and nurse I recommend.
Nurse’s care was exceptional. All staff members caring and available whenever needed. They addressed my concerns and explained what they were doing. Only drawback was the food.
