M. Jamil Akhtar, M.D., F.A.C.C. Introduce
For individuals in Taiwan with connections to the Tempe, Arizona area who are seeking a highly experienced "Heart Doctor Near Me," M. Jamil Akhtar, M.D., F.A.C.C., located at 2157 E Baseline Rd #101, Tempe, AZ 85283, USA, with contact numbers (480) 962-9494 and +1 480-962-9494, presents a compelling profile. Dr. Akhtar's credentials as a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (F.A.C.C.) signify a commitment to the highest standards of cardiac care. Patient reviews offer a glimpse into his long-term management of complex cases, alongside some concerns regarding appointment wait times and staff interactions.
One particularly impactful review comes from a patient whose father, Jay Bennett, has been under Dr. Akhtar's care since the late 1990s. This patient details a significant history of severe cardiac events for their father, including multiple heart attacks, a quintuple bypass surgery, the placement of seven stents, and the implantation of both a pacemaker and a defibrillator. Despite a significantly reduced heart function of 17% and approaching the age of 80, the reviewer credits Dr. Akhtar with keeping their father "alive and in good condition continually" since his first heart attack at age 62. This powerful testimonial speaks volumes about Dr. Akhtar's expertise in managing very complex and chronic cardiac conditions over an extended period. The reviewer unequivocally describes him as "an excellent physician" who "truly cares about his patients," highlighting not only his medical skills but also his dedication to patient well-being.
In contrast, another patient offers a less positive perspective on their experience with Dr. Akhtar's practice. This reviewer states that Dr. Akhtar "doesn't do much for me," which is a subjective assessment but suggests a lack of perceived benefit from their interactions. More concretely, they mention a "pretty long" wait time to secure an appointment. Furthermore, upon arriving for their appointment, they report waiting "almost an hour" to actually see the doctor. This indicates potential issues with scheduling efficiency or patient flow within the clinic. The reviewer also notes that the answers provided by Dr. Akhtar during the consultation were "real short," which could be interpreted as a lack of thoroughness or insufficient communication. Additionally, this patient expresses dissatisfaction with the nursing staff and the front desk personnel, describing them as "kind of rude," although they make an exception for an individual named Lisa at the front desk, whom they found to be nice. This feedback raises concerns about the overall patient experience beyond the direct interaction with the physician.
Considering these two contrasting reviews, the environment at Dr. Akhtar's practice appears to be one where the physician possesses significant expertise in managing complex and long-term cardiac conditions, as evidenced by the remarkable care provided to Jay Bennett. This suggests a practice equipped to handle patients with serious and chronic heart issues, potentially offering advanced treatment options and a deep understanding of cardiovascular disease progression. However, the second review paints a picture of potential challenges related to appointment availability, in-office wait times, the thoroughness of consultations (at least for some patients), and the demeanor of some staff members.
As a cardiologist with F.A.C.C. credentials, Dr. Akhtar likely offers a comprehensive range of services related to the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of cardiovascular diseases. These services typically include:
- Diagnostic Testing: Such as electrocardiograms (ECG/EKG), echocardiograms, stress tests, Holter and event monitoring, and potentially cardiac catheterization and angiography. Given his experience with patients who have undergone bypass surgery and stent placements, he likely has expertise in interpreting these advanced diagnostics.
- Management of Complex Cardiac Conditions: Including coronary artery disease, heart failure (as indicated by the patient with 17% heart function), arrhythmias (requiring pacemakers and defibrillators), and the long-term care of patients with multiple prior cardiac interventions.
- Medication Management: Prescribing and adjusting medications to manage various heart conditions and risk factors.
- Preventive Cardiology: Counseling patients on lifestyle modifications and risk factor management to prevent the progression of heart disease.
- Follow-up Care: Providing ongoing monitoring and management for patients with chronic cardiac conditions and those who have undergone cardiac procedures.
The fact that Dr. Akhtar has managed a patient with a history of a quintuple bypass, seven stents, a pacemaker, and a defibrillator for over a decade indicates a high level of skill and experience in interventional cardiology and device management. His ability to maintain the well-being of a patient with severely compromised heart function for such an extended period is a testament to his expertise.
Key features of M. Jamil Akhtar, M.D., F.A.C.C., based on the available reviews, include:
- Extensive Experience with Complex Cardiac Cases: Demonstrated by the long-term management of a patient with multiple severe heart conditions and interventions.
- Potentially Life-Saving Care: Credited with keeping a patient with severe heart disease alive and in relatively good condition for many years.
- Board-Certified Cardiologist (implied by F.A.C.C.): Signifying a high level of training and expertise in cardiology.
Potential drawbacks highlighted by the reviews include:
- Long Wait Times for Appointments: May indicate high demand or scheduling challenges.
- Significant In-Office Wait Times: Suggesting potential issues with patient flow.
- Short Consultations (for some patients): May lead to a feeling of being rushed or not having all questions adequately answered.
- Rudeness from Some Staff Members: Negatively impacting the overall patient experience.
Currently, no specific promotional information is available in the provided reviews. However, the powerful testimonial regarding Dr. Akhtar's long-term care of a very ill patient serves as a strong, albeit indirect, form of endorsement, particularly for individuals with complex cardiac histories. For local users in Taiwan who may have friends or family in the Tempe, Arizona area facing significant cardiac challenges, Dr. Akhtar's demonstrated ability to manage such cases over many years could be a crucial factor to consider when searching for a "Heart Doctor Near Me." However, it would also be wise to be aware of the reported issues with wait times and staff interactions, and perhaps inquire about these aspects when contacting the clinic.
Prospective patients might consider inquiring about the typical wait times for appointments and in the office, as well as the general approach to patient communication and staff interactions when contacting Dr. Akhtar's practice. While his medical expertise in complex cases appears to be a significant strength, the overall patient experience also depends on efficient processes and a supportive clinical environment.
In conclusion, M. Jamil Akhtar, M.D., F.A.C.C., in Tempe, AZ, appears to be a cardiologist with substantial experience and expertise in managing complex and chronic cardiac conditions, as evidenced by his long-term care of a patient with severe heart disease. For those seeking a "Heart Doctor Near Me" with a proven track record in challenging cases, Dr. Akhtar's qualifications and the positive testimonial regarding his life-sustaining care are noteworthy. However, potential patients should also be aware of feedback indicating potential long wait times and issues with staff interactions, and consider these factors when making their healthcare decisions.

Dr. Akhtar has done an excellent job with my dad, Jay Bennett. Since the late 90's, dad has had several heart attacks, a Quintuple Bypass, 7 stints, a pacemaker and a defibrillator. His heart functions at 17%, and he will be 80 in October. Dr Akhtar has kept my dad alive and in good condition continually since his 1st heart attack at 62. He is an excellent physician, and truly cares about his patients.
Doesn't do much for me. The wait to get an appointment is pretty long. And when I get to an appointment I'm waiting almost an hour to see the doctor. The answers are real short. The nurse's are kind of rude, as well as the front desk people. Lisa is nice though.
Long waits in exam room and waiting room.
