UW Health SwedishAmerican Hospital Introduce
UW Health SwedishAmerican Hospital, located at 1401 E State St, Rockford, IL 61104, USA, serves as a comprehensive healthcare facility for the local community. While listed under the platform category "Heart Doctor Near Me," this hospital provides a wide array of medical services beyond just cardiac care. Its presence in this category suggests that it offers specialized services related to heart health, alongside its broader medical offerings. For those seeking information or needing to contact the hospital, the phone number is (779) 696-4400, and the mobile phone number is +1 779-696-4400.
As a full-service hospital, UW Health SwedishAmerican Hospital likely encompasses various departments and specialties, including but not limited to cardiology, emergency medicine, surgery, internal medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, and radiology. Its affiliation with UW Health, a well-regarded healthcare system, typically indicates a commitment to providing a high standard of medical care, utilizing advanced medical technologies and adhering to established best practices. The environment of a hospital of this nature would typically include inpatient and outpatient facilities, operating rooms, diagnostic imaging suites, laboratories, and patient rooms designed for comfort and care.
The services offered by UW Health SwedishAmerican Hospital would be extensive, catering to a diverse range of medical needs within the Rockford community. For individuals specifically seeking a "Heart Doctor Near Me," the hospital would likely house a cardiology department with specialists capable of diagnosing and treating various heart conditions. These services might include cardiac consultations, diagnostic tests such as electrocardiograms (ECGs), echocardiograms, and cardiac catheterizations, as well as interventional procedures and cardiac surgery when necessary. The integration of cardiac care within a larger hospital setting allows for seamless collaboration with other specialists and access to comprehensive medical support.
However, the provided customer reviews present a deeply concerning perspective on the quality of care experienced by at least one patient. One detailed review describes a harrowing experience involving a routine cervical LEEP procedure performed by a Dr. Salstrom. The reviewer alleges a significant medical error – the failure to perform any cautery – which reportedly led to the patient almost bleeding out in the waiting room. The subsequent attempts to stop the bleeding in a non-sterile environment, the alleged accidental injury caused by the speculum, and the reported long-term pain are extremely serious allegations. Furthermore, the reviewer details significant issues with billing and a lack of communication from both the doctor and the hospital administration, culminating in being escorted off the property by security when attempting to resolve the issues.
This detailed account raises grave concerns about patient safety, surgical protocols, post-operative care, and the hospital's administrative response to alleged medical errors. The mention of a $60,000 bill for what is typically an outpatient clinic procedure, coupled with the refusal to address the patient's concerns, paints a picture of significant systemic issues from this individual's perspective. The reviewer's intention to seek legal counsel underscores the severity of their dissatisfaction and the alleged harm experienced.
Another, briefer review expresses frustration with nurse practitioners allegedly refusing to fill out job-related paperwork. This issue, while seemingly unrelated to critical medical errors, points to potential administrative inefficiencies or a lack of patient support in navigating necessary documentation for medical leave. The reviewer's concern about potentially losing their job due to this lack of cooperation highlights the broader impact of healthcare services beyond just medical treatment.
Given these reviews, it is challenging to provide a uniformly positive description of the environment, services, and features of UW Health SwedishAmerican Hospital based solely on this information. While the hospital is part of a reputable healthcare system and likely possesses the infrastructure and range of services expected of a large medical center, the detailed negative account raises serious questions about the quality and safety of certain procedures and the responsiveness of the institution to alleged errors and patient grievances.
The features of a hospital like UW Health SwedishAmerican would typically include state-of-the-art medical equipment, specialized units for various medical needs (including cardiac care units), a team of qualified physicians, nurses, and support staff, and adherence to medical protocols and safety standards. However, the negative review casts doubt on the consistent application of these standards in at least one instance.
There is no promotional information provided in the text. However, hospitals often promote their centers of excellence, advanced technologies, and patient-centered care initiatives. In the case of UW Health SwedishAmerican Hospital, one might expect them to highlight their cardiac services given their presence in the "Heart Doctor Near Me" category. This could include information about their cardiac specialists, the types of cardiac procedures they offer, and their outcomes in treating heart conditions.
In conclusion, while UW Health SwedishAmerican Hospital is a comprehensive medical facility in Rockford, IL, offering a wide range of services including cardiac care, the provided patient reviews present a starkly contrasting view of the patient experience. The detailed account of an alleged botched procedure, inadequate post-operative care, and administrative issues is deeply concerning and should be carefully considered by local users seeking medical care at this institution. While other patients may have had positive experiences, these reviews highlight potential significant shortcomings in patient safety and administrative responsiveness. Individuals considering UW Health SwedishAmerican Hospital, especially for surgical procedures, are strongly advised to seek further information and consider all available feedback when making decisions about their healthcare.

I'm not understanding why nurse practitioners will not fill out paperwork for my job, the nurse practitioner that did my procedure, will not fill out my leave from work form and when I went back, the other nurse practitioner did not fill it out either. I may lose my job because these people don't want to do theirs. I understand it's busy... but, this is ridiculous. If you did a procedure, and gave me a note saying I needed to stay home for a week and not do my paperwork is crazy.
Worst experience there (ER) and I’m not usually one to complain as I work in healthcare. Staff admitting to me they aren’t trained to do what they’re doing, placing my IV in a pitch black room after I requested the lights to be turned on for the task, blatantly ignoring me when I needed care, and completely lying in my after visit summary to make themselves look good. I’d do negative stars if I could.
