St. Luke's Health - Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center - Houston, TX Introduce

For individuals in the Houston, TX area seeking a "Heart Doctor Near Me" within a well-known medical institution, St. Luke's Health - Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center is located at 1101 Bates Ave, Houston, TX 77030, USA. They can be reached by phone at (832) 355-1000 or their mobile number +1 832-355-1000. This facility is often recognized as a leading medical center in Texas.

However, recent patient reviews paint a concerning picture regarding the quality of aftercare and overall patient experience. One patient who underwent major surgery reported receiving what they described as the "worst aftercare" they had ever experienced. Their account details a lack of regular check-ins, unaddressed needs, and instances where medical advice seemed to be contradicted (e.g., being given straws despite being advised against their use). The patient also described a distressing situation where their help button was out of reach, and no one responded to their calls for assistance, ultimately requiring them to contact their son via cell phone to alert the nursing staff. They also mentioned experiencing subcutaneous emphysema with severe pain that was allegedly not adequately addressed by the nursing staff, who reportedly did not initially recognize the condition. The patient felt a lack of physical touch and assistance, even with simple tasks like putting on socks. Furthermore, they recounted lying in their own waste for several hours due to a lack of timely care, attributing this to a perceived lack of compassion and caring from the nursing staff across multiple shifts.

This same reviewer also commented on the facility itself, noting that their room had damaged and missing blinds, rendering them ineffective. The bathroom was described as too small to accommodate both the patient and someone assisting them. Additionally, they observed a dirty floor at the check-in desk. This patient concluded that their experience was far below expectations for a facility supposedly ranked among the best in Texas and stated they would never recommend the hospital. They also mentioned a friend having a similar negative experience at St. Luke's, noting that they only began to feel better upon returning home.

Another patient shared a less severe but still concerning experience, stating that while the staff was friendly, the "Medical Care isn’t what it used to be." This patient transitioned from the ICU to a regular room and was not offered a bath, necessitating a complaint. They expressed gratitude to a physical therapy person who eventually provided a shower, highlighting that this was not their primary job duty. This reviewer also found the food to be subpar, describing repetitive and dry meals with limited options. While acknowledging it was hospital food, they suggested a greater sense of pride in its preparation. Despite being told other food options were available, they reportedly never received them.

Based on these two detailed reviews, the environment and services at St. Luke's Health - Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center, as experienced by these individuals, present significant concerns regarding nursing aftercare, responsiveness to patient needs, basic hygiene, and potentially the quality of food service. While the facility is purported to be a leading center, these accounts suggest potential shortcomings in fundamental aspects of patient care and the upkeep of the physical environment.

Based on the provided reviews, perceived features (both positive and negative) include:

  • Major Surgical Capabilities: As one patient underwent major surgery.
  • Friendly Staff (in one account): Though this did not translate to satisfactory care in that instance.
  • Physical Therapy Services: With at least one instance of a therapist going beyond their primary role to assist with hygiene.
  • Subpar Aftercare (according to one detailed account): Including lack of attention, delayed responses, and inadequate assistance with basic needs.
  • Potentially Inadequate Room Conditions (according to one account): Such as damaged blinds and a small bathroom.
  • Concerns about Cleanliness (in one area, according to one account): A dirty floor at the check-in desk.
  • Unsatisfactory Food Quality (according to one account): Repetitive, dry meals with limited access to alternatives.

There is no promotional information within these reviews. The feedback is overwhelmingly focused on negative experiences related to patient care and the facility itself.

For local users seeking a "Heart Doctor Near Me," St. Luke's Health - Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center is a major medical institution that undoubtedly houses cardiologists and provides advanced cardiac care. However, the recent patient feedback available raises serious concerns about the overall hospital experience, particularly regarding aftercare and basic patient needs. Individuals considering this center for their cardiac care might want to weigh these reported experiences against the hospital's reputation and potentially seek more information or recent reviews specifically related to the cardiology department to get a more nuanced understanding of the care provided within that specialty. The general hospital experiences described in these reviews serve as a cautionary note regarding potential aspects of patient care outside of the specific expertise of the heart doctors themselves.

I recently had my yearly mammogram done at the Daniel L. Duncan Comprehensive Cancer Center. Check-in was quick and my mammographer was excellent. She was very detailed on the procedure and made me feel comfortable throughout the procedure. I got a call within hours with the results which is always a relief that I don't have to wait several days as I have at other facilities. It was overall, a good experience.

Absolutely the best hospital experience. Great nurses who were kind and professional. I was able to stay in the same room as my husband. My husband received around the clock care and all needs were addressed. The Dr. on call was excellent in relaying information ab6my husband's condition. Getting dismissed was also very simple. Took a short amount of time.
