Elias Zias Introduce

For individuals in the New York City area seeking information about cardiac surgeons within the platform category "Heart Doctor Near Me," we present an overview of Dr. Elias Zias, a surgeon located at 530 1st Ave #9v, New York, NY 10016, USA. Dr. Zias is associated with NYU Langone, a well-respected medical institution in the region, and focuses on cardiac surgery, particularly heart bypass procedures.

Dr. Zias's office is situated at the 1st Avenue location within the NYU Langone network. While specific details about the immediate office environment are not provided in the reviews, being part of NYU Langone suggests a professional medical setting equipped for consultations and pre-operative assessments. The positive mention of his staff, including his assistant and PA, indicates a cooperative and supportive environment for patients navigating the complexities of cardiac surgery. Patients referred from other NYU locations, such as Brooklyn, are directed to Dr. Zias at this main campus, suggesting a centralized point for specialized cardiac surgical care within the NYU system. For detailed information about the office setting, contacting NYU Langone directly is advisable.

As a cardiac surgeon, Dr. Zias specializes in surgical interventions for heart conditions, with a noted focus on heart bypass surgery. One patient whose father was referred to him for this procedure was told that Dr. Zias is considered "the best surgeon," leading them to wait for his availability despite concerns about delaying the surgery. This suggests a reputation for expertise and positive surgical outcomes in the field of cardiac bypass. The successful surgery performed on this patient's father further supports this perception of his surgical skills.

However, another patient's experience provides a contrasting perspective on Dr. Zias's approach to pre-operative counseling and post-operative care. This patient's husband was recommended to Dr. Zias for a triple bypass after a catheterization. During the consultation, Dr. Zias explained the surgical process, including the use of a heart-lung machine, and his standard post-operative protocol. This protocol, as described by the patient, involved discharge on the same day of surgery and a follow-up office visit the following day (48 hours post-surgery). The patient expressed significant concerns about this proposed immediate discharge following major open-heart surgery, citing potential risks such as low oxygen levels and low blood pressure, based on their own experience working in a hospital setting.

Furthermore, this patient raised concerns about Dr. Zias's recommendation regarding smoking cessation for her husband, who was a smoker at the time. She recalled Dr. Zias suggesting cutting down to 10 cigarettes a day rather than strongly advising quitting before the surgery. The patient, while acknowledging the difficulty of quitting smoking, expressed a hope for more urgency from a surgeon regarding this critical health factor prior to a major cardiac procedure.

The features of Dr. Zias, based on the available reviews, present a mixed picture. He is described by one patient as "the best at what he does" and a "great human being," with a cooperative staff. This highlights his perceived surgical skill and positive interpersonal qualities. However, the second review raises questions about his standard post-operative care plan for major heart surgery and his approach to pre-operative risk factor management, specifically regarding smoking. This patient's professional experience in a hospital setting led to concerns about the feasibility and safety of immediate discharge after a triple bypass.

In conclusion, Dr. Elias Zias is a cardiac surgeon associated with NYU Langone in New York City, specializing in procedures such as heart bypass surgery. One patient's experience suggests a high level of surgical skill and a positive bedside manner, supported by a helpful staff. However, another patient's detailed account raises concerns about his standard post-operative discharge protocol following major open-heart surgery and his approach to pre-operative counseling on critical lifestyle factors like smoking. These differing perspectives highlight the importance of patients seeking comprehensive information and potentially a second opinion when considering major surgical procedures and discussing post-operative care plans.

For local users within the "Heart Doctor Near Me" category considering heart bypass surgery and potentially being referred to Dr. Zias through the NYU Langone system, it is advisable to carefully consider all available information. While one account praises his surgical expertise, another raises significant concerns about aspects of his typical post-operative management and pre-operative advice. Patients should feel empowered to ask detailed questions about the entire surgical process, including the expected recovery period, potential risks, and recommendations for lifestyle modifications before and after surgery. Seeking a thorough understanding of the proposed treatment plan and aligning it with personal comfort levels and potentially seeking additional medical opinions are prudent steps when facing major cardiac surgery.

The provided information does not contain any specific promotional offers related to Dr. Zias's services. Therefore, local users should focus on the available testimonials and conduct thorough research and consultations to make informed decisions about their cardiac care.

My father was referred to Dr. Zias for Heart Bypass surgery. Unfortunately, Dr. Zias was out of country during that time and we had to wait for him as we were told he’s the best surgeon but we thought waiting would just further complicate my fathers health. Today, I’m thankful that we waited as Dr. Zias really is best at what he does. Great human being. His staff is also very cooperative, his assistant and his PA.

He is a master at what he does. One of the best cardiologists/surgeons in NYU and maybe even New York. He saved my father's life with a 5-bypass surgery, and he made us feel so confident and safe that we walked in and out with a smile. But the best part of all is that beyond his profession, he is a good person inside too. Thank you Dr. Zias

He’s the best Cardiothoracic surgeon that I’ve ever met. I had open heart surgery in 2011 and my problems were not all fix. Dr. E. Zias did my second open heart surgery and was able to fix all my heart problems. He provided the best care that I needed. Definitely recommend him.
