One patient offers high praise, stating, "I don't recommend having open heart surgery, but if you have to, go see Dr Murtaza and his staff. They did an excellent job for me, explained all the details and I'm now on the road to recovery. All the staff at St Mary's are true professionals and make your stay and post op recovery easy." This review highlights Dr. Murtaza's surgical skill, his ability to explain complex medical information clearly, and the professionalism of his team and the staff at St. Mary's Hospital, contributing to a positive surgical experience and recovery.

However, another review expresses a deeply negative experience from the perspective of a patient's sister. This review alleges "the worst bedside manner of any physician I have ever encountered" and criticizes the post-operative care system at SSM, claiming inadequate support leading to a tragic outcome. This account raises serious concerns about communication, bedside manner, and the adequacy of post-surgical care coordination within the SSM system, at least in this particular instance. It is crucial to acknowledge the gravity of this negative review while also considering the positive experience shared by another patient regarding Dr. Murtaza's surgical skills.

Given the conflicting nature of the reviews, it is challenging to provide a singular assessment of Dr. Murtaza's overall practice. The positive review focuses on surgical competence and clarity of communication, while the negative review centers on bedside manner and systemic issues with post-operative care. It is important for prospective patients to consider both perspectives and potentially seek additional information or consultations to form their own informed opinion.

As no specific promotional information is available for Dr. Murtaza, individuals considering his surgical services should contact his office at (608) 260-2900 to discuss their specific medical needs, the surgical procedures he performs, and the typical post-operative care pathways at St. Mary's Hospital within the SSM Health system. Inquiring about the surgical team, the expected hospital stay, and the rehabilitation process is also advisable. Additionally, patients should verify insurance coverage and discuss any financial concerns with the hospital's billing department.

In conclusion, Ghulam Murtaza, MD, is a cardiothoracic surgeon practicing at SSM Health at St. Mary's Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin. He specializes in complex surgical procedures of the heart and chest. Patient reviews offer contrasting experiences, with one praising his surgical skills, communication, and the professionalism of the hospital staff, while another expresses severe dissatisfaction with his bedside manner and the post-operative care system. Prospective patients should carefully consider these differing accounts and seek further information to make an informed decision about their cardiac surgical care.

This physician has the worst bedside manner of any physician I have ever encountered and I have worked in Healthcare for 35 years! The SSM system after heart surgery also is broken, sending you home alone to try and manage the difficult recovery and actually DIE three days later, rather than to rehab, as was promised before surgery, as you are just a number to them! I am Dan's sister and am planning his funeral!
